Granite Materials
Granite is one of the hardest natural materials on earth. It is almost as tough as diamonds. It is long lasting, durable and available in many colours and textures. It is a very popular choice for kitchen and bathroom countertops. Granite is also great for exterior applications like curbing and holds up well to various types of weather. Granite can be found in many countries of the world including India, China, and Brazil. The most common locations are the Scandinavian Peninsula (mostly in Finland and Norway), Spain (mostly Galicia and Extremadura).
Granite gets its name from the Latin word ‘granum’ which means grain. It is composed mostly of feldspar, quartz orthoclase or microcline plus other dark minerals. It is normally medium to coarse in grain. It can range in colours from pink to dark grey and black.
These are the four main steps in the processing of granite:
• Dressing
• Cutting/Sawing
• Surface Grinding and Polishing
• Edge-Cutting-Trimming.
Of course, by the time your granite countertop is installed Bullseye has ensured that the above steps are completed, including the selection and of the kind of edging you want on your piece of granite.
